Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness (LIPW) is a group of Lancaster County Christian clergy, church members, congregations, and organizations dedicated to promoting the values of peacemaking and nonviolence for the creation of a more secure, sustainable, and just world. Our goals include:

  • exploring causes of global war and injustice, promoting interchurch conversation
  • speaking thoughtfully to other Christians about the need for just peace solutions to conflict
  • organizing public forums
  • making public statements
  • demonstrating our commitment to a positive peace witness and action
  • building a foundation for peacemaking that is sustainable
  • providing peacemaking resources for individuals and congregations

We share our witness against war on billboards, in signed newspaper ads, in letters to the editor, and through public events.

We raise awareness about peaceful solutions and the Christian mandate to seek peace by sponsoring a speaker series. LIPW speakers have included Jim Wallis of Sojourners magazine, Donald Kraybill of Elizabethtown College, former CIA agent Ray McGovern, and peace activist Sister Joan Chittister.

Our Middle East Interest Group focuses attention on that region through book studies, discussions, and speaking events.
