Sister Joan Chittister

LIPW, in collaboration with the Lancaster Literary Guild, co-sponsored the appearance of Sister Joan Chittister at First Presbyterian Church, 140 East Orange Street, Lancaster, PA, on Thursday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. Sister Joan is a world-renowned author, lecturer and prophetic voice for justice, peace, and religious renewal. She has consistently called for a higher morality in the conduct of U.S. foreign affairs.

Sister Joan holds a doctorate from Penn State University in social psychology and is a member of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, PA. She is also a communications theorist, has written more than 30 books, and is a regular columnist for the National Catholic Reporter. She has received eleven honorary degrees and awards, and has held several positions of leadership for approaching peace, social justice, and women’s rights. She founded Benetvision: A Resource and Research Center for Contemporary Spirituality in Erie, PA.
