Lancaster Church of the Brethren • 1601 Sunset Avenue • Lancaster PA

Jim Fine, Legislative Secretary for Foreign Policy for the Friends Committee on National Legislation, Washington DC, reported on recent developments in the Middle East and Washington and the present advocacy agenda. Jim focused on what the Obama administration is or isn't doing on the issue and what groups like Churches for Middle East Peace, the progressive Jewish organizations and others are trying to do on Capitol Hill.

8:30 AM: Continental Breakfast
8:50 AM: Program Commences

Jim Fine, involved in the Middle East for several decades, was on a two-week trip in December '08, to Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan with a delegation from Churches for Middle East Peace. The delegation was barred from entering Gaza, at a time when Israel took the unprecedented step of severely tightening access of journalists, diplomats, and aid workers, eliciting the criticism of The New York Times, Reuters, BBC, CNN, and many other media outlets.
