Phyllis Bennis was the speaker for the LIPW Spring Forum held on April 15, 2007, at Highland Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, PA. The title of her address was "Challenging Empire: US Policy in Iraq and Beyond."

This address showed continuity in US empire building – shaped and driven unilaterally by economic, political, and military interests. Her perspective in this presentation includes Iraq, Iran and Israel-Palestine.

Her recent book titles include: Challenging Empire: How People, Governments and the UN Defy US Power, Interlink, 2005; and Understanding the Palestinian Israeli Conflict: A Primer, Interlink, 2007.

Bennis is a Fellow with the Institute of Policy Studies, Washington, D.C., and of the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam. She is an experienced analyst and journalist on the Middle East.
