Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness, in conjunction with Kids as Peacemakers and On Earth Peace, will coordinate a Children’s Peace Education Mural Project during summer 2009. Using a faith-based curriculum developed specifically for this project, participating churches and community organizations will help children in grades 1-6 create murals that include their visions and images for peace in the world. Coordinators at the project sites will also be encouraged to develop a plan with the children to create ways to work for peace that are represented in the mural they develop.

We are pleased to announce that the Children's Peace Education Mural Project will culminate on September 19, in a community-wide celebration at the CLIPPER STADIUM! This is the Saturday closest to International Day of Peace on September 21. The celebration will begin at 9 AM in the stadium's picnic area and will include a Prayer for Peace and a "Mural Walk" exhibition of all the completed murals. We are also excited to have Heidi Beth Wert's group, "Sharing the Vision", join us for a fun-filled interactive drumming session and capoeira performance! Heidi Beth & her students teach peace through drumming, rhythm & storytelling. The Mural Walk & Celebration will end at 11 AM; it is free and open to the public. The murals will be on display throughout the stadium that afternoon and evening during the Barnstormers doubleheader.
